Description
"Murdock Theatre Sign" by Catherine Sherman.
Built in 1931 in Wichita, Kansas, at a cost of $50,000, the Louise C. Murdock Theatre was designed with a "Spanish flair."
Originally built as a performance art theatre, in 2004, it was adapted to include film and video capabilities.
The Louise C. Murdock Theatre was built as an addition to the Victorian-era 20th Century Center building. Named after the founder of the 20th Century Club and a prominent local figure, Louise C. Murdock, the theatre served as a performing arts center and lecture hall in its early days.
Throughout the renovations, great care has been taken to ensure the historic integrity of the building remain intact, including its original frescoes, art deco chandeliers, shuttered windows, and grand balcony.
