Many dogs roam Cusco and are often found sitting in front of residential and shop doors and in parks.
Cusco, sitting at an elevation of 11,200 feet (3,400 meters), is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cuzco Province. Its population is almost half a million people.
Cusco was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire. UNESCO named Cusco a World Heritage Site in 1983. It is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru by the Constitution of Peru. Two million people visit Cusco every year.
Cusco is a city in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. Another spelling is Cuzco.
