Description
"Danish Mailbox" by Catherine Sherman.
Bright red mailboxes are mounted conveniently throughout Copenhagen, Denmark, for postal patrons to mail their letters and postcards. Some are "decorated" by graffiti.
Post Danmark A/S company has operated the Danish postal Service since it was established in 1995, taking over the mail delivery duties of the governmental department Postvsenet (established in 1624). It was turned into a public limited company in 2002. In 2005, 22% of the company shares were sold to CVC Capital Partners, 3.5 percent of the company shares were partly sold to employees at a discount, partly kept in reserve for a management incentives program.
As of 2007, Post Danmark employs about 21,000 people, and delivers about a billion letters and 37 million parcels every year. Post Danmark has a wide variety of services, such an express deliveries (ensured delivery by no later than 9am the following morning), courier services, facility services, 10 o'clock service (ensured delivery no later than 10am every day), Electronic mailbox (mail getting scanned electronically and sent to you by email instead of regular post).
June 2009, Post Danmark merged with the Swedish postal company Posten AB to form the new holding company Posten Norden AB, currently known as PostNord. Posten Norden AB has been renamed PostNord AB, with the Swedish government owning 60 percent of the company and the Danish government 40 percent.
