Description
"Flags, Goodman LeGrand House, Tyler, Texas" by Catherine Sherman.
American and Texas flags hang on the columned front porch of the Goodman-LeGrand House and Museum in Tyler, Texas. Blooming azaleas surround the house. Tyler is known for its extravagant azalea plantings, which the city highlights with an annual Azalea Trail in the spring.
Named Bonnie Castle by original owner Samuel Gallatin Smith, the Greek Revival house was built in 1859. Now a museum, the house sits on a large landscaped estate on North Broadway in Tyler. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Smith County in 1976, and has been a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark since 1962. The Daughters of the American Revolution designated it an Historic Site in 2010.
