Description
"Flower Lei on Lava Rock" by Catherine Sherman.
Visitors to a resort on Kauai, Hawaii, leave their flower lei on a lava rock, which is surrounded by ferns. Some of the flowers in the lei are orchids and plumeria. Lei, which is a garland or wreath meant to be worn around the neck, can also be made from feathers, shells and other items.
The most popular concept of a lei in Hawaiian culture is a wreath of flowers presented upon arriving or leaving as a symbol of affection. This concept was popularized through tourism between the Hawaiian Islands and the continental United States in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Kauai, known as the Garden Island because of its extensive tropical foliage, is the oldest of the main Hawaiian islands, which were formed from volcanoes.

It would be hard for me to leave my lei there...I'd want to take it home. But, since it's a symbol of affection, I guess I'd leave it. Beautiful photo and great description. l/f

Thank you very much, Lynn! I would be very reluctant to leave my lei behind, too.
