Description
"General Palmer Hotel in Durango" by Catherine Sherman.
A young man in wearing a straw boater hat greets visitors passing by the General Palmer Hotel in Durango, Colorado. Boaters were popular as casual summer headgear in the late 19th century and early 20th century, especially for boating or sailing, hence the name.
The prestigious General Palmer Hotel, built in 1898, is a Victorian style hotel in the historic downtown district, near the historic Durango Train Depot, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Hotel guests can watch the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad trains come and go.
