Built in 1891, the historic Panola County jail in Carthage, Texas, remained in use until 1953. Designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1967, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the building underwent significant rehabilitation in the 1980s and is now home to the Leila B. LaGrone Family History Center, a law-enforcement and pioneer museum, and a veterans memorial.
