Description
"Honeybee Visits Apricot Candy Hybrid Tea Rose" by Catherine Sherman.
A honeybee visits an Apricot Candy hybrid tea rose in the Tyler, Texas, municipal rose garden. This tea rose does well in hot conditions, and it was very hot the day that I took this photograph.
Hybrid tea is an informal horticultural classification for a group of garden roses. They were created by cross-breeding two types of roses, initially by hybridizing Hybrid Perpetuals with Tea roses. It is the oldest group classified as a modern garden rose.
The Tyler Municipal Rose Garden is a 14-acre park, making it the nation's largest rose garden. There are more than 38,000 rose bushes of at least 500 different varieties, from tall grafted rose trees to miniature roses no larger than a dime.
The Garden is one of 24 All American Rose Selection (AARS) test gardens in the country where the newest varieties are evaluated over a two-year period.
The Rose Garden is the site of the annual Texas Rose Festival held in mid-October each year and attracts thousands of tourists.
