Description
"Magnolia Bloom at Boone Hall" by Catherine Sherman.
A magnolia blooms at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
Boone Hall Plantation is one of America's oldest still working plantations, continually growing crops for over 320 years. It's on the National Register of Historic Places.
The house, gardens, and other places of interest are open to the public for tours all year round. It's known for its avenue of live oaks that line the long driveway.
Magnolia soulangeana (saucer magnolia) is a hybrid plant in the genus Magnolia and family Magnoliaceae. It is a deciduous tree with large, early-blooming flowers in various shades of white, pink, and purple. It is one of the most commonly used magnolias in horticulture, being widely planted in the British Isles, especially in the south of England; and in the United States, especially the east and west coasts.
