This beautiful pink and white camellia is one of thousands that bloom at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in South Carolina. One of the oldest estates in South Carolina, Magnolia Plantation was founded by the Drayton family in 1676. The historic house and gardens are on the Ashley River and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Though named for the Sotuhern Magnolia, the plantation is more known for its camellias and azaleas. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is one of only five gardens in the United States and only 30 gardens in the world that has received the prestigious International Camellia Garden of Excellence award from the International Camellia Society.
The Society has recognized Magnolia as being a preeminent romantic garden where visitors can explore and enjoy the largest camellia collection in the United States.
The collection contains more than 20,000 camellias.
