Mount Hood looms on the horizon beyond a silo and farm equipment in northcentral Oregon.
Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon.
Mount Hood stands at 11,249 ft (3,429 meters) with a prominence of 7,706 ft (2,349 meters) and is Oregon's highest point and a prominent landmark visible up to 100 miles (160 km) away.
Mount Hood was first seen by European explorers in 1792. Mount Hood hosts twelve named glaciers or snow fields.
