Description
"Bridge Flower Box in Woodstock, Vermont" by Catherine Sherman.
Woodstock, Vermont, was named "The Prettiest Small Town in America" by a magazine, and it lives up to its billing with abundant flowers, rolling forested hills and charming buildings throughout the village.
Woodstock is known for its covered bridges, but even its "ordinary" bridges are charming. A flower box bright with red geraniums adorns this bridge over the Ottauquechee River. Woodstock is a New England treasure.
The town was named after Woodstock in Oxfordshire, England, as a homage to both Blenheim Palace and its owner, George Spencer, 4th Duke of Marlborough. The town was first settled in 1768 by James Sanderson and his family and was incorporated in 1837.
