Description
"View from Bartolome Peak in the Galapagos" by Catherine Sherman.
We climbed more than 300 steps to the peak of Bartolome Island to see one of the most iconic views in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. I had just broken my toe slipping on a boat deck, but I wasn't going to miss this experience so I hobbled up each excruciating step. We'd taken a two-and-a-half-hour boat ride to get here! As we neared the top, a storm rolled in.
Bartolome Island is famous for Pinnacle Rock, a towering spearheaded obelisk that rises from the shore and is the best known landmark in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. Here a storm rolls in, shrouding the distant hills with mist.
The Galapagos Islands and their surrounding waters form an Ecuadorian province, a national park, and a biological marine reserve.
The islands are famed for their vast number of endemic (unique) species and were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle.

Thank you, Donna! Yes, it was definitely worth the limping and huffing and puffing and the heavy rain on the way down!
