Description
"A Snowy Egret Says Thou Shall Not Pass" by Catherine Sherman.
A snowy egret standing on a dock near Cape San Blas, Florida, seems to be guarding the dock. Beyond are brown pelicans and sea gulls.
The snowy egret, Egretta thula, is a graceful small egret with black legs and bright yellow feet. Breeding Snowy Egrets grow filmy, curving plumes that once fetched high prices in the fashion industry in the 19th century, endangering the species, but the birds are now protected. In 1886 these plumes were valued at $32 per ounce, which was twice the price of gold at the time.
It is found in wetlands of many types; marshes, riverbanks, lakesides, pools, salt marshes and estuaries.

Catherine Sherman replied:
Thanks you very much, Lynn. I thought he was adorable. I took his suggestion and stayed off of the dock.
