Description
"Caledonia Miners Boarding House, Colorado" by Catherine Sherman.
Miners who worked for the Caledonia Mining Company lived in this log boarding house in the early 1900s near Silverton, Colorado.
As recently as 2000, the house had a vestibule, which has since fallen from the building. The altitude in this Minnie Gulch mining area ranges from 9,800 to 11,00 feet above sea level.
The miners who dug for gold and silver in this area lived in very harsh conditions and many died from avalanches and other accidents.
