"Rainbow and Icelandic Horses" by Catherine Sherman.
I almost missed this rainbow. It had been sprinkling when we arrived in Iceland, and we began our drive to the Icelandic southwest under cloudy skies and intermittent showers.
When the sun came out, instead of savoring the beautiful sunlight, I quickly put on my sunglasses. My friend who was driving pointed to the south and said, "Look at the rainbow!" I looked and looked, frustrated that I couldn't see it. Well, I was wearing polarizing sunglasses. When I took them off, there was the rainbow arching over a pair of Icelandic horses on a farm on an ocean inlet along the southern shore.
We saw tese beautiful Icelandic horses throughout Iceland. Developed from ponies brought to Iceland by Norse settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries, the breed is featured in literature and historical records throughout Icelandic history.
