Description
"Brown Pelican Balancing on a Rope, Marathon, Florida" by Catherine Sherman.
A brown pelican balances on a rope tying up a boat at a fish cleaning station in Marathon, Florida, in the Florida Keys. The pelican is patiently waiting for the boat crew to toss him some fish.
The brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a North American bird of the pelican family, Pelecanidae. It is one of three pelican species found in the Americas and one of two that feed by diving in water. It is found on the Atlantic Coast from Nova Scotia to the mouth of the Amazon River, and along the Pacific Coast from British Columbia to northern Chile, including the Galapagos Islands.
The brown pelican is the official state bird of Louisiana.

Fun photo of this pelican. I'm surprised he/she didn't fly off...you seem so close. l/f
Catherine Sherman replied:
Thanks,Lynn! This pelican had his eye on getting some fish scraps at a fish cleaning station. The pelicans know when the fishing boats come in. They are fearless!
