"Harry S Truman Family Farm" by Catherine Sherman.
Rows of maple trees in bright Autumn color flank the front lawn of the Harry S Truman Farm Home, also known as the Solomon Young Farm, in Grandview, Missouri. Future U.S. president Harry S. Truman lived in the house from 1906 to 1917 and worked its acreage as a farmer from the ages of 22 to 33. The house is part of Harry S. Truman National Historic Site.
Truman left the farm in 1917 to join the Army and in the last five months of World War I, he served in combat in France as an artillery officer in his National Guard unit
The house was built in 1894 by Harry Truman's maternal grandmother, Harriet Louisa Gregg, and sits on 5.25 acres of the family's former 600 acres farm. It was here, said his mother, that Harry got his common sense.

Thank you, Laura! Truman is quite an icon in our area. The shopping center near the farm is called Truman Corners. I was lucky there were still these beautiful leaves on the trees.
