"Oscarshall Castle, Oslo, Norway" by Catherine Sherman
The Oscarshall Pleasure Castle stands above the trees on the inner Oslofjord in Oslo, Norway. Built on the orders of King Oscar I and Queen Josephine, it was completed in 1852. today the pleasure castle stands as a monument of Norwegian art and art industry from the mid-1800s. The facility - with its main building, other buildings and the surrounding park - is considered the main work of the new Gothic in Norway and is one of the country's most important national romantic monuments. In 1881, King Oscar II opened the castle as a museum for the public.
Norwegians enjoy sailing and other water activities on the fjord below the Oscarshall.
