Description
"Martinsville, Texas, Log Cabin Post Office" by Catherine Sherman.
The Martinsville, Texas, post office is housed in a log cabin style building. Martinsville, which is fourteen miles east of the town of Nacogdoches, is an unincorporated community in Nacogdoches County
Dr. John D. Martin, an Alabama native, moved to the area in the 1850s. Originally, the town was called Martin's Mill or Martin City. When residents applied in 1867 to use the name Martin's Mill for its post office, they were told that another community held that name so the post office was named Martinsville.
